Is there a universal tool for unpacking dos cracktros?

Before we start manual unpacking you can throw the exe's into an hex-editor and check for the packer string in the beginning.... the first AFL.exe for example is packed with PKLite and you can easily unpack it using doxbox and the pklite exe: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bzvbewi13s7w4x0/AFL_unpacked.EXE?dl=0 ... some others have "UPX" string in the header so simply do the same with the UPX-Packer binary. I will do the others at the weekend.

cool I noticed one of them had a RNC header so I unpacked it with ppami.exe but the unpacked version didnt run  in dosbox :P

You need to edit the neccessary 'MZ' header to make the exe run. But does it make sense that the unpacked exe is still executable?

Should it not be executable ? After unpacking the pklite intros they were executable

Yes because PKLITE knows what to do after unpacking. :-) I guess ppami unpacked the RNC data correctly but is not able to rebuild the original executable header with the correct informations like entry point and so on.

Else to unpack dos program without stress, Use the tool named unp :)

Great tool , UNP worked for pklite and rnc. The genesis intros must be packed with something else I cant seem to see a head on these ones

There is also an Protector used on the Genesis.exe's ... when tracing through the code there is some standard RNC block decrypted with a "Protector v5.1" string at the end.

I remember there were some pretty nice PC intros/menus from XPS (X-Pression) too. I remember one intro/menu which had some sprites from a 'running' character of a 2D scrolling game in it but can't find that on defacto2.net. Anyone?

For the time being, here's a Fairlight intro coded by Maniac with graphics from CG: http://www.defacto2.net/file/detail/a23286/maniac/-/-/date
