Just wanted everyone to know that I've really benefited from downloading the Amiga asm sources here on Flashtro. I've ported some of them over to Devpac and have really learned from them...actually I've just reached the tip of the iceberg. Most of my demo activity has been on the c64, but I've been desperately wanting to release something on the Amiga. I've got most everything I need to release my first intro, but I just need to spend a few days tacking everything together and coming up with some decent cohesive design.

I could possibly contribute a bit (if not now, then eventually) by uploading some sources I've come up with just fiddling around with Devpac (I guess I should switch to AsmOne before its too late...I kind of like the interface better, but I hear it has a few bugs). Anyway, hopefully I'll master everything in these tutorials you guys have here, and can come up with some code to post. It always helps to have someone at an intermediate level do tutorial work in a technical field...somebody who can still remember being a beginner, but who has also moved beyond those initial hurdles. Once I have a prod or two released, I'd gladly offer such assistance.

Make the switch to Asm-One, you'll be much happier :P
It does have a few bugs, but none are showstoppers and all are well-known (at least by Stingray!)...

Yeah, I'll do that...In fact it would be a good idea to use today's free time to read over the Asm-One docs. Thanks for the recommendation Wayne.

I've been playing around quite a bit this week with some code using Asm-One on my NTSC A500 (still don't have a pal amiga). I already enjoy using it much more than Devpac, and it's a hell of a lot faster. I've already been working with some of the Flashtro sources as well as some of my own stuff.

What have you managed to make so far?

Don't answer him plagueis, it's a trap... next thing he'll be asking you to code him new flashtro crack intros and trainermenus! :)

@Musashi9: I made a lot of copper routines and practiced displaying sprites, setting up bitplanes, and also playing protracker mods. Unfortunately this was all in Devpac, and a lot of it was under PMC's generous tutelage. Paul's a big fan of Devpac. Eventually I built up a huge folder of over a hundred sources, mostly just me playing around with learning the chipset. This was last year, and now I've gotten my real hardware set up, and I have a ARII and a meg of ram...however, I'll still be doing a lot of coding on the emulator. Now I've made the switch to AsmOne and I like it a lot better, especially since it has a CLI and a much better interface (plus a built in monitor). What has taken me so long to do anything is that I'm also in a very active c64 cracking group for which I often make trainers and intros for. Plus, I'm partially involved in the organization of that group as well. Also, I'm in a demo group on the c64. But I'm trying to slow down my activity on the C64 temporarily in order to get some shit together on the OCS Amiga.

I am going to start painting some logos soon, and get them displayed (and maybe swinging) on the screen, and I'll be on my way to my first prod's release. My very first product will have a Retro logo, because Paul was the one who actually approached me on the CSDb early in 2009 and invited me over to the old skool Amiga coders' hangout on EAB. I just need to tackle the blitter and the final piece will be in place for me, and I can get text scrolling. I don't want my first intro to use CPU shifting or ROL to get text scrolling across the screen even though I could. ;P

My goal for tonight is just to display a bitplane and then use a source to copy something to that bitplane as a destination. Kind of a blitter "hello world" of some sort to get my confidence going. I'm going to need that skill to be able to use the blitter to copy a piece of my font "pic" onto the scroller bitplane. So I'm off to do that. Late!

But wait! He can code Amiga crack intros and trainer menus too, right? Or has he gone flash only? Either way, I would love to code flashtro cracktros and trainer menus, but my skills aren't quite there yet. When they are, you guys will know about it...Wayne will attest to the giant emails he gets from me on the regular about this stuff!

Late to the discussion it's true but let me just say: pah! Devpac FTW! \o/

unless of course you want to calculate bootblock checksums or write sectors to disk or... oh wait, AsmOne *does* have its uses after all :D
